Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia to Meet in Almaty for Peace Talks

Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia are set to meet in Almaty to continue negotiations on a peace treaty.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev informed the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on April 28 during a phone call about this upcoming meeting.

"Antony Blinken first of all conveyed his congratulations on the agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan on border delimitation, emphasizing that this is approved by the United States. The Secretary of State stated that the US is ready to continue supporting the normalization of relations and the advancement of the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan," as stated by the press service of the President of Azerbaijan.

It was mentioned that President Aliyev noted that the agreement reached by the commissions of the two countries on delimitation is the result of discussions held on a bilateral basis in conditions of dialogue and mutual understanding. Aliyev emphasized that the commencement of work on demarcation at the border of the two countries following the delimitation process is also a positive step.

"The head of state announced that at the proposal of the Kazakh side, the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia will soon meet in Almaty to continue negotiations on a peace treaty. Reminding that the initiator of the peace treaty and its foundation of five principles is the Republic of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that our country will make every effort to ensure that the peace agenda continues in the future, noting that Azerbaijan has a strong political will for this. The head of state stated that Azerbaijan supports the creation of a model of integrated regional cooperation in the South Caucasus without any dividing lines in the region," as reported by the press service of the President of Azerbaijan.

Appreciating the steps taken recently by Azerbaijan in the field of human rights, Antony Blinken expressed the wish for them to continue.

Earlier, President Aliyev stated that Baku received a proposal from Kazakhstan to organize a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and he agreed. This information was later commented on in Yerevan.
