in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

In Kazakhstan, changes to the vehicle tax are being planned, as reported on April 30, 2024, in response to a parliamentary inquiry by senators, by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov.

The head of the government noted that for several years, car owners have been raising the issue of revising the taxation of passenger vehicles to establish a more fair approach based on the duration of use and the cost of the vehicle.

"In this regard, a differentiated approach to taxation is proposed, depending on the year of manufacture of the vehicle," stated Olzhas Bektanov.

He proposed the establishment of the following reducing coefficients to the vehicle tax rates:

  • For cars manufactured between 10 to 20 years ago - 0.7;
  • For cars manufactured over 20 years ago - 0.5.

"Currently, approaches to this issue are being worked out. After the final decision on the proposed approaches is made, they will be reflected in the draft of the new Tax Code," added Olzhas Bektanov.

It was reported on March 7, 2024, that changes to the vehicle tax in Kazakhstan are being prepared by the government, as disclosed by Deputy Finance Minister Erzhan Birzhanov.
