Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to attend SCO meeting in Astana

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov arrived in Astana, where on May 20-21 he will participate in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

According to TASS, Lavrov will discuss with his colleagues the preparation for the organization's summit (July 3-4), as well as current international and regional issues.

"Special attention will be paid to the prospects for further development of the organization and its adaptation to the formation of a new world order. The head of Russian diplomacy has several bilateral meetings planned," the statement said.

It is noted that the ministers will prepare a package of various documents for approval by the heads of states.

"Agreed assessments of the situation in the world and trends in its development by the SCO member states, as well as consolidated approaches to further advancing multifaceted cooperation within the organization, will be recorded in the final political declaration," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

One of the key outcomes of the summit on July 3-4 will be the accession of Belarus to the SCO as a full-fledged member state of the organization.

The next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO member states will take place in the capital of Kazakhstan on May 21.
