On February 27, 2024, employees of the Committee of National Security (KNB) of Kazakhstan, in coordination with the prosecutor's office, detained two residents of the Akmola region on suspicion of extortion. This was reported by the department's press service today.
According to the investigation, with the patronage of foreign so-called thieves in law, they were engaged in extorting money from entrepreneurs and attempted to establish criminal control over business entities in the Burabay resort area.
"During the searches, firearms and cold weapons, as well as narcotics, were seized from the suspects," the statement said.
The KNB noted that a pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Article 194, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.
With the court's sanction, the detained individuals have been remanded in custody.
