Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Join Forces to Improve Ecological Situation in Aral Basin

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are set to work together to enhance the ecological situation in the Aral Basin. Members of the Mazhilis on March 13th took on a relevant bill.

This norm is outlined in the bill "On the Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Cooperation in the Field of Ecology and Environmental Protection." The bill was presented by deputy Edil Zhanbyrshin.

"The cooperation will be carried out in the following main directions: prevention and control of air and water pollution, management of solid household waste, preservation of biodiversity, development of joint activities to improve the ecological situation in the Aral Basin, environmental monitoring, establishment of joint educational institutions, personnel training, as well as the parties will take all necessary measures to prevent emergencies that harm the environment," Zhanbyrshin added.

According to him, a special commission will be established between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Nysanbayev, stated during a government meeting on March 12th that there are plans to build 37 new plants for solid household waste processing in major cities.
