President of Kazakhstan Calls for Tougher Measures Against Drug Production

in Politics / Kazakhstan - by

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed stricter penalties for the production of narcotics at the third National Kurultai on March 15. He urged to eradicate destructive behavioral patterns.

"Due to globalization, advancements in new technologies, and various other reasons, new societal vices have emerged that we need to combat. I believe that as a nation, we must create a solid barrier against the spread of the following five social evils. Firstly, drug trafficking, including synthetic drugs, which has become a real epidemic," the president stated.

He mentioned that just last year, over 7,500 crimes were identified in this area, with 41 tons of narcotics seized from illegal circulation.

"Drug addiction is spreading particularly rapidly among children, poisoning our younger generation. We must intensify the fight against drugs without delay because tomorrow may be too late. Currently, we have strict penalties for drug trafficking. I propose enhancing the accountability for the production of narcotics to equate it with the most serious crimes. I urge the Parliament to support this initiative," summarized the head of state.

It was previously reported that the third National Kurultai commenced in Atyrau. In his address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to strengthen national unity.
