Abiba Abuzhakynova, the leader of the Kazakh women's judo team, recently secured a bronze medal at the Grand Slam tournament in Antalya, Turkey. Competing in the under 48-kilogram weight category, Abuzhakynova made it to the semifinals but was defeated by the three-time world champion Natsumi Tsunoda from Japan.
In the battle for third place, Abuzhakynova faced off against Russian judoka Sabina Gilyazova. Gilyazova received three warnings, resulting in Abiba's victory. Along her journey to the medal, she also overcame opponents such as Raquel Brito from Portugal, Kristina Dudina from Russia, and Maria Laborde from the USA.
Prior to this achievement, Kazakh athletes had already clinched two medals at the Grand Slam judo tournament in Tbilisi, Georgia.
