On April 1st, the traditional international judo tournament Grand Prix-2024 kicked off in the Turkish city of Antalya, with Kazakh athletes making their mark on the first day. The Kazakh team stood out by claiming third place on the podium of honor.
Leading the Kazakh judo team, Ergali Shamey secured a bronze medal in the men's 73 kg (J1) weight category at the Turkish competition.
Adding to Kazakhstan's medal tally, Dayana Fedosova also won a bronze medal in the women's 57 kg (J2) weight category.
The competitions will continue until April 4th, with Kazakhstan being represented by a strong team of 10 men and seven women.
Ergali Shamey, who secured the first medal for the Kazakh team, is the reigning world champion of 2022 and clinched a gold medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, last year.
Furthermore, Dayana Fedosova was among the medalists at the Asian Para Olympics in 2023, claiming third place.
