On April 16, Kazakh wrestler Yusuf Maciev lost in the final of the Asian Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship in Bishkek. Competing for the gold medal, he faced the renowned Iranian representative, bronze medalist of the Olympic Games and 2021 world champion, Mohammad Hadi Saravi, in the 97 kg weight category. The match ended with a victory for the Iranian wrestler with a score of 9:0, resulting in Maciev concluding his performance with a silver medal.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a ceremonial lighting of the flame for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games took place in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
