In Madrid, Spain, the clay court tournament of the Masters series has kicked off with the qualification round. 16-year-old Kazakh tennis player Amir Omarghanov has received a wildcard (WC) from the organizers to participate in the qualifying stage.
This marks Omarghanov's first participation in a professional adult tour. In his debut match at the ATP level, the Kazakh will face a tough opponent, the court master Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP No. 86), who has 11 ATP titles to his name. The game between Omarghanov and Agut is scheduled to start around 16:10 Astana time. If successful in the second round, the young Kazakh player will compete against either Diego Schwartzman (ATP No. 142) or Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ATP No. 105).
Amir currently holds the 13th position in the ITF junior ranking. At the Australian Open 2024 junior tournament, he reached the quarterfinals in the singles category.
Furthermore, veteran Kazakh tennis player Mikhail Kukushkin (ATP No. 129) will also participate in the Madrid Masters qualification. In the first round, he will face Argentine Federico Coria (ATP No. 89), whom he has defeated twice in previous encounters.
The first opponent for Putintseva at the Madrid Masters has been determined, while Rybakina has learned about her potential opponents.
