In Dubai, UAE, the junior Asian Athletics Championships (U-20) has concluded, where representatives of the Kazakhstan national team earned eight medals of various quality, one of which was gold.
The Kazakhstan team was represented at the Asian Championship by 42 athletes, according to the press service of the national Athletics Federation. The competition program included all disciplines of athletics: throwing, racewalking, jumps, sprints, hurdles, long-distance running, and relays.
On the final day of the Asian Championships 2024, the only gold medal for Kazakhstan was secured by Alina Chistyakova, who excelled in the heptathlon with a score of 5481 points.
Our team concluded the event in seventh place overall. We have one gold, four silver, and three bronze medals. Last year, Alina Chistyakova was part of the national team and had already won a bronze medal in the pentathlon at the adult Asian Championships in Tehran. The main team will be strengthened by new athletes. The younger generation is showing promising results and can now challenge older athletes. Asia currently has a very high level of athletics, with young athletes achieving results that sometimes exceed the standards for many international competitions.
Following the past weekend, the Kazakhstani Olympic team secured two more spots for the trip to Paris. Firstly, fencer Aigerim Sarybay won qualification for the 2024 Olympics. Then, Eduard Yeshchenko from the Kazakhstan shooting team secured a quota for participation in the Olympic Games in Paris.
