At the prestigious women's ITF W100 tournament in Wiesbaden, Germany, young Kazakhstani players created a sensation. In the first round of the doubles event, Sonya Zhiyenbava and Asylzhan Arystanbekova defeated Veronika Erjavec/Tamara Zidansek from Slovenia.
The Kazakhstani duo celebrated their victory with a score of 6:4, 7:6 (7:4). It is worth noting that their opponents were seeded fourth in the tournament in Germany, with Tamara Zidansek being a former 22nd-ranked player in the world in singles.
This victory marks Sonya Zhiyenbava and Asylzhan Arystanbekova's first quarterfinal appearance in a major adult tournament.
In the match to secure a spot in the semifinals, the Kazakhstani players will face the top-seeded pair in the competition, Yana Sizikova (Russia) / Oksana Kalashnikova (Georgia).
