The renowned Kazakh tennis player Yulia Putintseva defeated the US Open 2017 champion Sloane Stephens with a score of 6:3, 6:2 in the second round match of the WTA-1000 clay tournament in Rome.
The match lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes, with Yulia now leading in their head-to-head encounters at 4:3.
In the third round of the "thousand" tournament, the Kazakh player will face the world's number one seed Iga Swiatek, who defeated the 77th-ranked player from the USA, Bernarda Pera (Q), with a score of 6:0, 6:2.
Earlier, it was reported that at the start of the WTA-1000 tournament in Rome, Yulia Putintseva secured a victory over Italian player Martina Trevisan with a score of 6:3, 6:4.
According to the KTF, Putintseva has achieved 12 victories in WTA-1000 tournaments in 2024. Only Iga Swiatek (21), Elena Rybakina (15), and Danielle Collins (13) have more wins than her in the "thousand" events.
It was also previously reported that another Kazakh player, Elena Rybakina – the reigning champion of Rome, will skip the first round and will face either Romanian player Irina Begu or a qualifier in the second round.
