Kuanish Askarbekov became the first Kazakh athlete to win a medal at international boccia competitions. The competition took place in Lahti, Finland.
According to the Committee for Sports and Physical Education, the national team also secured another bronze medal in the team competitions, with Itiana Chingiskhanova, Alexander Kurmantaev, and Kuanish Askarbekov contributing to the achievement.
In the individual category, Itiana Chingiskhanova finished fourth, Meruert Tlebaldy fifth, Balzhan Bulekpaeva sixth, and Temirlan Altynsary eighth. In the doubles category, the pair of Temirlan Altynsary and Aruzhan took sixth place.
From May 27th to 31st, the Kazakhstan Boccia Championship will be held in Astana.
Boccia is a rapidly developing sport designed for players with severe forms of central nervous system damage and spinal cord injuries.
In December of last year, Astana hosted the first Kazakhstan Boccia Cup. Fifty-seven athletes participated in the Cup across four classes. Over two days, 34 boccia masters claimed victory, including athletes from Astana.
The top female player in the Cup was Astana's Itiana Shyngyshankyz, while the best male player was Alexander Kurmantay from Pavlodar.
