Batyrkhan Toleugali, representing the Kazakhstan Taekwondo team, has clinched an Olympic license for the 2024 Paris Games. Toleugali achieved this feat after advancing to the final of the Asian qualifying tournament in Taiwan, in the weight category up to 80 kilograms.
In the quarterfinals, Toleugali emerged victorious over Akshay Khudy from India. He then went on to celebrate a win in the semifinals against Saudi Arabia's representative, Ali Mabruk al-Mabruk. This secured Toleugali's participation in the Paris Olympics in 2024, as per the regulations of the competition.
Following Toleugali's success, three more Kazakh athletes have the opportunity to replicate his achievement in the coming days. Besides Toleugali, Samirkhon Ababakirov (up to 58 kg), Maria Sevostyanova (up to 57 kg), and Zhansel Denis (over 67 kg) will also compete for Olympic quotas.
However, Kazakh fans will have to wait to witness their performances, as they are scheduled to start after March 15. While the Kazakh Taekwondo athletes are just beginning their quest for Olympic licenses, four of our boxers have already secured spots in the Paris competition after the recent qualifying events in the Italian city of Busto Arsizio. Saken Bibosynov, Mahmud Sabyrkhan, Aslanbek Shymbergenov, and Aibek Oralbay are among the successful athletes who earned their tickets to the Paris Olympics.
