in Environment / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), conducted a presentation of the publication "Landslide Atlas in the Kyrgyz Republic" in Bishkek to improve public awareness of landslides. This information was provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

One of the authors of the publication, Andrea Tamburini, emphasized that due to the nature of precipitation, geology, topography, and high seismic activity, Kyrgyzstan is significantly prone to landslides.

According to the director of the Landslide Risk Management Project Implementation Department, Anarkul Aitaliev, a list of 46 sub-projects has been compiled for the research of publications. This means that 46 areas at risk of landslides have been selected for study and research on landslides.

The atlas presents key data and maps on landslide threat, vulnerability, and risk on a national scale and for specific objects. It also provides opportunities for a comprehensive approach to addressing landslide risk issues and contains information aimed at supporting analysis and decision-making on landslide risk management in Kyrgyzstan.
