Emergency Dam Construction Underway After Zhayyk River Spill on Atyrau Highway

In the Atyrau region today, on May 20, 2024, a spill of the Zhayyk River (Ural) occurred on the Atyrau - Inder highway. In connection with this, emergency protective dams are being erected.

According to the information from the emergency response headquarters of the Atyrau region, the fact of water spillage onto the surface of the Atyrau - Inder highway was recorded at the 25th km.

"In connection with this, urgent work is being carried out to build a dam along the road from the side of the Zhayyk River (Ural)," said Deputy Akim of Atyrau, Nurzhan Ermukhanov.

He clarified that work is being carried out at the site to build the dam with the involvement of 15 units of heavy machinery.

"The police department staff are ensuring traffic flow," said Nurzhan Ermukhanov.

Work is also being done to direct the spilled water into ravines, old riverbeds, and the Sokolok Canal.
