in Environment / Kyrgyzstan - by

In the Bishkek City Hall, officials explained why municipal employees will be using public transport on certain days.

According to the press service, the restriction on using personal vehicles by municipality workers is being implemented to improve the ecological situation in the capital and to monitor and analyze the quality of public transport services.

Tuesday and Thursday have been chosen for the restriction as these days witness the highest intensity of traffic in Bishkek.

The City Hall notes that introducing the restriction on using personal and official cars on these days will help reduce road network congestion, decrease traffic jam durations for all commuters, and increase the demand for public transport. The use of public transport by municipal employees will set an example for citizens and other organizations, encouraging more eco-friendly and efficient means of transportation.

Aibek Djunushaliev, the mayor, previously prohibited City Hall employees and municipal workers from using personal vehicles on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

"This, in turn, will stimulate the development of the transportation system and reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere," added the City Hall.
