Kyrgyz President Signs $50 Million Agreement to Improve Air Quality

President Sadyr Japarov has signed the Law "On the ratification of the agreement on financing (the project to improve air quality in the Kyrgyz Republic) between Kyrgyzstan and the International Development Association, signed on December 12, 2023, in Bishkek." This was reported by the press service of the head of state.

The document was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on April 18, 2024. It provides for the provision of a $50 million loan from the International Development Association to our country for the implementation of the air quality improvement project.

The funds are proposed to be directed towards:

- Strengthening the air quality management system through the construction and modernization of automated air quality monitoring stations;

- Modernizing the chemical laboratory for air quality testing;

- Technical assistance in strengthening air quality control procedures;

- Air quality forecasting and warning methods;

- Assisting in the implementation of clean heating technologies for private homes;

- Construction of irrigation systems to ensure the sustainability of urban greening in Bishkek.
