More than 1300 girls from Uzbekistan have presented their projects aimed at solving social issues using technologies and innovations within the framework of the Technovation Girls Uzbekistan 2024 competition. This was reported by the company Yandex, which supports the project.
During the competition, participants presented 83 projects focused on improving the urban environment, enhancing transportation safety, and addressing social problems through artificial intelligence technologies. Among them are applications against bullying among teenagers, online study aids and homework checkers, a voice assistant for the visually impaired and blind.
Throughout the competition, participants were supported by over 133 mentors, including leaders and practicing IT specialists from Yandex.
On May 31, the winners and runners-up of the regional stage of the competition will be awarded. The winners of the Uzbekistan competition will participate in the final, which is held annually in Silicon Valley, USA. Yandex has introduced special nominations "Smart City" and "AI For Good" for the authors of the best projects using AI, as well as for solving urban environment and transportation safety issues – winners in these categories will receive prizes from the company.
"Participants of previous years' Technovation note that the program has had a positive impact on their careers, leadership qualities, and job opportunities. Graduates often win other competitions and receive international grants for education. They enroll in leading local and international universities, pursue careers in the field of information technology, science, and engineering, as well as start their own ventures," shared the director of the NGO Tech4Impact, Saida Yusupova.
Technovation Girls Uzbekistan is held with the support of the Ministry of Digital Technologies, HHO Tech4Impact, and Yandex. Previously, Yandex provided access to lectures conducted within Technovation for all schoolchildren in Uzbekistan. The lectures are tailored for school-level students and are available on the Technovation YouTube channel in Uzbek and Russian languages.
