Kazakhstan's Finance Minister, Madi Takiyev, disclosed the country's national debt amount during a press conference at the government on March 19, 2024. According to Takiyev, as of January 1, 2024, Kazakhstan's national debt stood at 27 trillion tenge.
"In relation to GDP - it stands at 22.8%. We have a limit of 33%. It is considered safe," the minister added. On December 27, 2023, Erlan Sairov, a member of the Majilis, stated that Kazakhstan's national debt size is 40% of the total budget. He mentioned certain risks in such a situation.
Former Prime Minister Alihan Smailov pledged during a joint session of the parliament that in the next five years, the national debt would remain at a safe level and would not exceed 25% of the GDP.
