Almaty Shows Positive Economic Growth and Enhances Seismic Safety Measures

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Almaty Akim Erbolat Dosayev on March 21, 2024. Dosayev presented the social and economic development of Almaty, highlighting the city's dynamic economic growth in the first two months of 2024. The city's short-term economic indicator showed a positive growth of 1.7%, with local budget revenues increasing by 55% to 287.5 billion tenge. Investments in fixed capital saw a 24.5% rise, totaling 190 billion tenge. Dosayev also mentioned the implementation of new urban development requirements to promote polycentric city development, enhance seismic safety, and eliminate random construction.

Moreover, Dosayev updated President Tokayev on the progress of ensuring seismic safety in the city, reporting inspections of 183 sites after the January 23 earthquake without significant damages. Comprehensive inspections of 363 more sites were initiated after the March 4 earthquake, with plans to conduct seismic audits on 13.2 thousand sites in 2024. A Mass Alert system will be piloted by June 1 to promptly notify citizens in case of emergencies. Dosayev also addressed the "reboot" of waste management systems and a new approach to maintaining green spaces, signing service contracts for three years to enhance financial stability and service quality.

Previously, President Tokayev met with Daulet Sarsenbayev, the director of the National Seismic Monitoring and Research Center, emphasizing the center's crucial role in national security by ensuring the safety of the population, economic assets, and the environment. President Tokayev's visit to Almaty on March 20, 2024, included a public address at Astana Square, where he extended Nauryz greetings to all Kazakh citizens. The event featured a performance by Dimash Kudaibergen, captivating the audience with his talent and artistry.
