Ratification of Amendments to Eurasian Economic Union Treaty Strengthens Integration Efforts

in Economy / Kazakhstan - by

The Senate deputies ratified a protocol amending the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) treaty on March 28, 2024. The protocol aims to address gaps in the current EAEU law regarding technical regulation, veterinary and phytosanitary measures, consumer rights protection, non-tariff regulation, and government procurement. The amendments allow member states to implement emergency phytosanitary measures against harmful organisms not listed in the EAEU's quarantine objects. The mutual recognition of national electronic digital signatures will facilitate participation in electronic procurement. The process of obtaining permits for importing and exporting goods will also be streamlined.

The ratification of the protocol is expected to further strengthen integration within the EAEU, eliminate existing legal gaps, and implement the Strategic Directions for Eurasian Economic Integration Development by 2025. Additionally, on March 27, 2024, the Lower House deputies ratified a protocol concerning cooperative projects in the industrial sectors, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to enhance economic cooperation within the EAEU.
