The Chairman of the Board of Kegoc, Nabi Aitzhanov, revealed at a briefing on the outcomes of the Ministry of Energy's meeting on March 5th, how the introduction of a single time zone in Kazakhstan has affected electricity consumption.
"A one-hour addition resulted in increased consumption. However, it should be noted that consumption slightly decreased during morning peak hours. Overall, there is a slight increase in consumption, but the energy system is coping with it," stated Nabi Aitzhanov. Managing Director of AO "KEGOC," Nurzhan Kerimkulov, added that there was an increase of around 100 million cubic meters per year, which is 0.1% of the total consumption share.
The head of KEGOC also mentioned that Kazakhstan only purchases electricity during peak hours, which currently amounts to about 1-1.5 thousand MW per day. The price depends on the balancing market. The hourly cost of electrical power depends on the balancing cost in Russia, hence the fluctuating prices. During peak hours, the cost can reach 40-50 tenge, with prices varying every hour, as explained by the speaker.
On March 5th, the head of Kegoc, Nabi Aitzhanov, presented the projected balance of electrical power for the years 2024-2030. According to him, there will be a significant deficit of electrical power up to 6.2 GW by 2030.
