Kasym-Jomart Tokayev meets with OECD Secretary-General at Boao Asian Forum

On March 28, 2024, at the Boao Asian Forum, a meeting took place between Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann.

President Tokayev welcomed the Secretary-General, emphasizing the OECD's serious attention to Asia. He highlighted the region as a significant economic community and Kazakhstan's important role within it, especially in the regional dimension. Tokayev expressed the country's commitment to following OECD standards and aligning its economic policies accordingly.

Tokayev further noted that Kazakhstan has signed important documents during its collaboration with the OECD and is working towards joining other mandatory OECD legal instruments. In response, Mathias Cormann affirmed the organization's dedication to strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Asian countries, including Kazakhstan. He expressed satisfaction with the positive relations between Kazakhstan and the OECD, emphasizing the potential for further expansion and enhancement in the future.

Cormann assured Kazakhstan of the OECD's readiness to support the country's reform program and enhance global cooperation to address current challenges effectively. President Tokayev underscored the importance of establishing an OECD regional office in Kazakhstan and invited OECD representatives to participate in the upcoming Astana International Forum.

Prior to this meeting, Tokayev met with Ban Ki-moon, praising him as one of the best UN Secretaries-General. Additionally, the Kazakh President held a meeting with Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China.
