The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) has announced the suspension of oil shipments on the Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline.

According to a statement from the CPC press service, maintenance and installation of new equipment on the main oil pipeline Tengiz-Novorossiysk have begun during a scheduled shutdown starting from April 9, 2024.

"These 72-hour shutdowns of oil pumping through the pipeline occur at least twice a year, and their schedule is coordinated in advance with all shippers, as well as with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Planned shutdowns are necessary to perform certain types of maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations that cannot be carried out on the existing equipment," explained the CPC.

Among the key works planned for April 2024 are the connection of a new pipeline section at the 266th km (crossing under the under-construction highway Atyrau-Astrakhan), pipeline defect elimination, replacement of electric drives with new ones for the opening and closing of shut-off valves on the linear part, technical re-equipment of the pressure control unit at the Marine Terminal, and others.

"At present, oil shipments at the CPC Marine Terminal are also suspended. Resumption is scheduled for April 11, and further updates will be provided," added the CPC.

On March 26, Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliev responded to a question regarding the risks of transporting Kazakh oil due to threats in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system.
