The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that a temporary ban on the import of chicken eggs by road from third countries and from the Eurasian Economic Union countries has been imposed in Kazakhstan for a period of six months.
The ban does not apply to transit through the territory of Kazakhstan or the movement from one Eurasian Economic Union member state to another through Kazakhstan.
"The temporary ban on egg imports is aimed at supporting domestic producers during the spring-summer period. It is known that during this period, there is a decrease in demand for eggs, which is fully met by industrial production and the active presence of household products in the market. This factor negatively affects poultry farms, leading to a decrease in egg prices. Price reduction below cost price has a negative impact on the profitability of enterprises."
The press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan stated that during this period, the storage period of eggs is reduced. Due to technological features, egg production volumes do not decrease, resulting in overstocking in warehouses.
"In this regard, to support domestic producers and protect the domestic market, the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy approved the feasibility of imposing temporary restrictive measures on the import of chicken eggs by road into Kazakhstan for the spring-summer period," the statement reads.
The order will come into effect on May 1, 2024.
Earlier, Minister of Trade Arman Shakaliev mentioned in the corridors of the Majilis that the increase in egg prices is related to the season.
In February, while monitoring food prices, data from the National Statistics Bureau of Kazakhstan on egg production and costs over the past three years in different cities of Kazakhstan was analyzed.
