The largest gas supply company in Kazakhstan, KazTransGas Aymak, will refund consumers unjustly charged 1.2 billion tenge.
The Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its territorial divisions conducted unscheduled inspections of the production branches of JSC KazTransGas Aymak in several regions in response to a demand from the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan.
As a result, violations were found in the actions of the branches of JSC KazTransGas Aymak related to the establishment of additional requirements not related to the regulated service. Unjustified fees were collected from consumers for services such as tapping, sealing, and initial gas commissioning.
The amount of unjustified charges for these services amounted to approximately 1.2 billion tenge.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the branches of JSC KazTransGas Aymak for the violations, totaling 79,536,471 tenge.
The territorial divisions of the Committee for the Regulation of Natural Monopolies of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan have issued instructions to the branches of the monopolist subject to rectify the violations by refunding unjustly charged amounts to consumers and ceasing the practice of charging for tapping, sealing, and initial gas commissioning services.
In late January 2024, the branch KazTransGas Aymak was already fined millions of tenge for providing false information.
