Improving Water Supply Infrastructure Across Akmolinsk Region

in Economy / Kazakhstan - by

The head of the regional department, Daniyar Kuanyshbayev, reported significant progress in water supply services in rural areas, with coverage reaching 95.2% last year. In 2023, 29 villages in the Akmolinsk region were provided with water supply services, 12 of which were connected to centralized water supply systems, while the remaining 17 had containerized block-modules installed. Additionally, 20 projects were developed for rural areas, with exploratory work conducted in 12 locations to ensure groundwater reserves.

Looking ahead to 2024, 65 water supply and drainage projects are set to be implemented, including network construction and reconstruction initiatives. Furthermore, funding details for 45 water supply projects are being finalized. Addressing concerns in Kokshetau, Kuanyshbayev assured residents that clean water will be available by December this year, with construction already underway. A cooperation agreement signed with the UAE-based company "Metito" during a visit to Dubai will facilitate the construction of sewage treatment facilities in Kokshetau.

In January 2024, "Metito" will send financial and technical experts to further progress the project. Efforts to ensure stable water supply in Ekindykolsky and Korgalzhynsky districts are also underway, with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation initiating the reconstruction of 69 km of the Nurinsky group water pipeline. Completion is expected by the third quarter of 2024, aiming to achieve 99% water supply coverage in urban areas and 96.1% in rural communities by the end of 2024.
