in Environment / Kazakhstan - by

The Committee for Forestry and Wildlife has prepared an amendment to the Rules for Providing the State Service "Issuing a Permit for the Extraction of Animals Whose Population Needs to be Regulated."

The document has been posted on the "Open Regulatory Legal Acts" website for public discussion until May 8.

Earlier, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Erlan Nysanbayev, announced that the regulation of the saiga antelope population in Kazakhstan has been suspended.

According to him, the culling of saiga antelopes has been halted after consultations and discussions with domestic scientists and international experts. Additionally, there have been difficulties in moving across the steppe during the winter.

It is projected that considering last year's calving, the saiga antelope population will reach approximately 2.5 – 2.6 million heads. The Minister did not rule out the possibility that the regulation of the relic antelope population may be resumed next year.
