On April 24, 2024, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Zaysan district of the East Kazakhstan region. According to seismologists, the intensity reached 2 points. The National Scientific Seismic Observation and Research Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported that the epicenter was 760 km from Almaty. The underground shocks occurred at 11:19 Astana time, with an energy class of 9.9 and a depth of 5 km. The tremors were felt with a magnitude of 2 points in the Zaysan district, specifically in the village of Tasbastau.

This event follows a series of recent earthquakes in different parts of the world. On April 23, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan, while on April 18, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in the central part of Turkey.
