in Environment / Kazakhstan - by

The emergency response headquarters of the Atyrau region has announced a forecast regarding the peak of the flood in Atyrau. According to specialists, it is expected to occur in early May. Arman Zhumagaziev, a representative of the group of scientists and researchers at the regional emergency response headquarters, stated that a large volume of water coming from the West Kazakhstan region could cause a rise in the water level in the Ural River in Atyrau at the beginning of May.

Referring to previous data, Zhumagaziev highlighted that most of the water used to arrive in the Atyrau region in mid-May, but the situation changed in 2024. He mentioned, "The water coming from the West Kazakhstan region reaches Atyrau in about 6-7 days downstream. The riverbed of the Ural River is expected to fill up around May 2-3."

As of 8:00 on April 24, the water level in the Ural River at the Atyrau hydrological station has reached 422 cm, with the dangerous level being 550 cm. It is noted that 229.6 km of dams have already been constructed along the banks of the Ural in Atyrau to mitigate the potential impact of the upcoming flood.
