At the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, it was announced on April 26th which regions will have new reservoirs built following the floods in almost all of Kazakhstan.

According to the official representative of the ministry, Moldir Abduaeva, Kazakhstan will construct 20 new reservoirs with the capacity to collect up to 2.5 billion cubic meters of water.

"In the first stage, the construction of 10 reservoirs is planned in the Akmola, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan, and Zhetysu regions. One reservoir, Kensai-Koskorgan-2 in the Turkestan region, has already been put into operation," Moldir Abduaeva stated.

In addition, construction has begun on the Baidibek-ata reservoir in the Baidibek district of the Turkestan region, and the Karakuys reservoir in the Tolebiy district.

"Furthermore, work is underway to develop project cost estimates for the construction of eight reservoirs. These include the Esil regulator in the Akmola region, the Pokatilovskoye reservoir in the Almaty region, a reservoir on the Bolshoy Uzen River in the Jalpaktal settlement, and a reservoir on the Maly Uzen River near the village of Seksengbay in the West Kazakhstan region. The Yrgayty, Kalguty, and Akmola reservoirs in the Zhambyl region, and a reservoir on the Karauzyak canal in the Kyzylorda region," announced the official representative of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Moldir Abduaeva.

The new reservoirs will help combat drought in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, provide farmers with necessary water volumes, and reduce the country's dependency on neighboring states by 25%.

In addition to constructing new reservoirs, the ministry will also reconstruct 15 existing reservoirs with a total volume of 1.9 billion cubic meters. This year, work will commence on six projects in the Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kostanay, Turkestan regions, and Astana.

Previously, the Ministry of Emergency Situations provided updates on the current flood situation in the regions. According to the department, the flood situation remains under control in three regions - Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, and North Kazakhstan - due to the water levels in the Zhaiyk (Ural) and Esil rivers.
