Ural River Water Levels Rising in Atyrau, Emergency Response Ongoing

Water levels in the Ural River in the Atyrau region continue to steadily rise, as reported on April 29, 2024, from the emergency situations headquarters of the region.

According to the hydrological monitoring data from "Kazhydromet" in the Atyrau region as of 8:00 on April 29, over the past day, the water level in the Ural River has changed due to the water inflow from the ZKO territory:

  • At the hydrological station on the Ural River in Inderbor, the water level stands at 668 cm, with a rise of 23 cm. The total increase since the beginning of the flood is 445 cm.
  • At the hydrological station on the Ural River in Makhambet, the water level is at 754 cm. There has been an 11 cm rise in the water level in the past day, with a total increase of 437 cm since the start of the flood.
  • At the hydrological station on the Ural River in Atyrau, the water level has stopped at 442 cm, with an 8 cm rise in the water level in the past day and a total increase of 251 cm since the beginning of the flood.

Experts note that water will continue to arrive. "As of April 29, the discharge from the Irklik reservoir is 192 cubic meters per second."

Emergency Situations Headquarters of the Atyrau region

It was previously reported that the peak of the flood in Atyrau is expected in early May. Arman Zhumagaziev, a representative of the working group of scientists at the regional emergency headquarters, stated that the riverbed of the Ural River is expected to fill up on May 2-3.
