Zhayyk River in Western Kazakhstan Sees Significant Water Level Rise

As of 08:00 on May 1st, the water level in the Zhayyk River has risen by 5 to 25 cm over the past day, depending on the adjacent area.

According to the operational headquarters of the region, the water level changed due to the inflow of water from the West Kazakhstan region.

- At the Zhayyk River hydrological station in the Inderbore settlement, the level is at 718 cm, with a 25 cm increase in level, totaling a 495 cm rise since the beginning of the flood.

- At the hydrological station in the Mahambet settlement, the level is at 779 cm, with a 15 cm increase in level over the day, totaling a 462 cm rise since the beginning of the flood.

- In Atyrau, the water level of the Zhayyk River is at 451 cm, with a 5 cm increase in level over the day. The total rise since the beginning of the flood is 260 cm.

The operational headquarters state that further increases in the water level are expected.

As of May 1st, the discharge from the Irklin Reservoir is 141 m³/s.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MЧС) has shown how water is being pumped out of flooded houses in Kulsary using mobile pumping stations.
