in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

President Sadyr Japarov stated in an interview with the state news agency "Kabar" that he does not have time to react to slippery liars, commenting on the statement made by his former associate Melis Aspekov, who was convicted of organizing mass riots. Japarov added that it is unnecessary to respond to such fraudsters.

Previously, a statement by the activist Melis Aspekov was circulated on social media. Aspekov claimed that he had received $3 million from Rayimbek Matraimov and passed them to Sadyr Japarov to support his followers.

On March 23, 2022, Melis Aspekov was sentenced to seven years in a general regime colony for extortion and fraud. Disagreeing with the verdict, he appealed it in the Bishkek City Court. The court upheld the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court on July 5 of the previous year, reducing the prison term by one year, ultimately sentencing him to six years of imprisonment.

In May 2023, it was announced that the activist was released under the President's Decree on the Pardon of Convicts. However, in September, Melis Aspekov was again arrested for two months on charges of preparing and organizing mass riots. He was placed in pre-trial detention center-1 in Bishkek by the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court.

In March 2024, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek sentenced activist Melis Aspekov to seven years of imprisonment for preparing and organizing mass riots, finding him guilty.
