Kyrgyz court justifies officials accused of illegally granting citizenship to Turkish citizens

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek has ruled on the case of issuing passports to Turkish citizens, including Orhan Inandi. The court's press service announced that former head of the Kyrgyz Republic President's administration Farid Niyazov, former head of the State Committee for National Security Busurmankul Tabaldiev, and the secretary of the citizenship issuance commission under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Ernis Apilov, who were accused of illegally granting citizenship of Kyrgyzstan to Orhan Inandi and ten other Turkish citizens, have been acquitted. The press service stated that the acquitted individuals have the right to rehabilitation.

An investigation was initiated regarding the passport issuance to Orhan Inandi. The Bishkek City Police Department reported that the director of the educational institution "Sapat" holds dual citizenship, having obtained a Kyrgyz passport in 2012. Former President Almazbek Atambayev and ex-head of the presidential apparatus Farid Niyazov were implicated in the case.

On May 31, 2021, the president of "Sapat," Orhan Inandi, went missing and was later revealed to have been abducted. On July 5, 2021, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on the state television channel TRT Haber that Orhan Inandi, identified as one of the top leaders of FETO, had been captured in Kyrgyzstan and taken to Turkey.

On July 6, Sadyr Japarov stated in an interview that the government would demand the swift return of Orhan Inandi to Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed a note to Turkey urging the return of Inandi to his homeland. The Bishkek City Police Department reported that the director of the educational institution "Sapat" holds dual citizenship.

Following a court decision in Ankara, Orhan Inandi was placed in custody. During the trial, he described the torture he endured at the police station. The Ankara General Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of up to 22 years and 6 months of imprisonment for Orhan Inandi. Ultimately, the Ankara High Criminal Court sentenced him to 21 years of imprisonment.
