Adahan Madumarov's Political Case Reaches the Argument Stage in Court

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The district court is currently in the arguments phase of the case involving politician Adahan Madumarov. The defendant's lawyers report that the prosecutor has claimed the politician's guilt is fully proven and are seeking a guilty verdict. However, they have not specified a punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Previously, the parliament had approved holding Deputy Adahan Madumarov criminally responsible. The case centers around a protocol signed in 2009 in Khujand. Adahan Madumarov, who was serving as the Secretary of the Security Council at the time, signed a protocol with the Tajik side during a working meeting of the heads of state bodies of the two countries under the guidance of the secretaries of the security councils. The document involved the leasing of a 5-hectare plot of land with a length of 275 meters from Tajikistan by the Kyrgyz side for 49 years. The protocol was agreed upon after negotiations in Khujand, where officials aligned domestic procedures for signing an intergovernmental agreement on prohibiting economic activities along the state border until its demarcation is completed.
