Kyrgyz Prime Minister meets with UN officials to boost country's development

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, recently met with the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, the Assistant Administrator of UNDP, and the Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and the CIS, Ivana Zhivkovich. The meeting aimed to discuss cooperation in various sectors including agriculture, hydropower, renewable energy, tourism, education, transportation, and digitalization.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Japarov expressed interest in attracting advanced technologies to Kyrgyzstan in the aforementioned fields. The UNDP officials called for active participation in implementing the national action plan for the development of mountainous regions and the establishment of a trust fund in Kyrgyzstan to address climate issues.

Ivana Zhivkovich, the Director of the UNDP Regional Office for Europe and the CIS, commended Kyrgyzstan's leadership in the global mountain agenda, citing it as a positive example on the international stage. She also praised the government's programs to eradicate poverty and support healthcare and education.

Furthermore, Zhivkovich shared UNDP's proposals for establishing a trust fund in Kyrgyzstan to tackle climate-related challenges. The discussions underscored the commitment of both Kyrgyzstan and the UNDP to work together towards sustainable development and addressing pressing environmental issues.
