Upcoming Elections in Kyrgyzstan: Candidate Registration Deadline Approaching

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Central Election Commission (CEC) reminded citizens interested in running for parliament in the Batken No. 2, Kara-Suu No. 9, and Osh No. 7 single-mandate constituencies of the Jogorku Kenesh that the deadline for submitting their documents is midnight on March 28th.

The CEC specified that a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic who is at least 25 years old on the day of the elections, has the right to vote, and holds a higher education degree can be elected as a Jogorku Kenesh deputy.

To run as a candidate in a single-mandate electoral district, an individual must submit a statement of intent to run for candidacy in that district to the CEC (in the case of self-nomination) or a decision from the political party congress (if nominated by a political organization). Additionally, the candidate must deposit an electoral deposit in the amount determined by law.

A candidate can only be nominated in one electoral district. The submission of the necessary documents for candidate registration in a single-mandate electoral district must be completed by 6:00 pm on March 31st.

As of 10:00 am on March 26th, the CEC received 1 statement of intent to run in the Osh district, 10 in the Kara-Suu district, and 9 in the Batken district.

It is worth noting that the by-elections for deputies in the Osh, Batken, and Kara-Suu single-mandate electoral districts will take place on April 28th. These seats became vacant after the CEC prematurely terminated the powers of Iskender Matraimov, Nurlan Rajabaliyev, and Aybek Osmonov.
