Expansion of Kyrgyz Language in Preschools Announced by Education Minister

The Kyrgyz language is set to have a more prominent presence in preschools across Kyrgyzstan, as announced today during a press conference by the Minister of Education and Science, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, in response to a question.

It has been noted that there are discussions regarding the concept of transitioning the entire primary school system to the national language.

Minister Kendirbaeva emphasized that the phased transition applies to preschool educational institutions, rather than primary school classes.

"There will be a simultaneous 50% proportional development of Kyrgyz and Russian language groups. With the constitutional law in place, we are obligated to be proficient in the national language. Every individual living in Kyrgyzstan should be successful and realize themselves in politics, science, and business, and without knowledge of the Kyrgyz language, it will be very difficult to achieve this," stated Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva.

She highlighted that this is not a radical or discriminatory measure.

"In Germany, for example, where there are many migrants from other countries, knowledge of the German language is mandatory. Even in the most democratic United States, there is a strict requirement - only in English. However, we must completely transform the teaching of the Kyrgyz language, applying the best methodologies. It should be accessible and practice-oriented," noted the Minister of Education.

Previously, the Speaker of the Parliament, Nurlanbek Shakiev, had proposed the complete transition of primary schools to the national language.
