in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

The Bishkek district court announced the verdict for Adahan Madumarov, a member of the Jogorku Kenesh, today. The court found him guilty but exempted him from punishment due to the statute of limitations. However, Adahan Madumarov will remain in custody until the verdict comes into force.

Earlier, the parliament had consented to holding Deputy Adahan Madumarov criminally liable. The case pertains to a protocol signed in 2009 in Khujand. Madumarov, then Secretary of the Security Council, signed a protocol with the Tajik side regarding a land lease agreement. According to the document, Kyrgyzstan leased a 5-hectare, 275-meter-long plot of land from Tajikistan for 49 years. The protocol was accepted after negotiations in Khujand, where officials aligned domestic procedures for signing an intergovernmental agreement prohibiting economic activities along the state border until its demarcation is completed.
