During the XIII Atomexpo Forum in Sochi, the CEO of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, and the Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, Boobek Ajikeev, held talks. They discussed the implementation of the interstate target program for the rehabilitation of territories of CIS member states affected by uranium mining, as well as ongoing efforts to eliminate environmental and radiation damage from former uranium and mining facilities in Kyrgyzstan for the period of 2024-2030.
Following the meeting, an agreement was signed between the Russian government and the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers on cooperation in the rehabilitation of Kyrgyz Republic territories affected by uranium and mining activities. The signing of this agreement is expected to improve the environmental situation, effectively utilize the territories, promote the socio-economic development of communities left after the closure of uranium production facilities, and further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
