The lawyer Bakyt Avtandil reported on Facebook that Ilgiz Shamenov was forcibly removed from the courtroom of the Pervomaisky District Court in Bishkek by convoy officers who used physical force. After being taken to a temporary detention cell, Shamenov was choked by the convoy officers, causing him to lose consciousness. Given Shamenov's heart problems, these illegal actions could have cost him his life. Medical assistance was called for, and the situation is being monitored.
On October 22, 2022, a support committee for the Kambyr-Abad reservoir was established, consisting of activists, politicians, and parliament deputies. Subsequently, mass arrests began on October 23, with 27 individuals detained on charges of inciting mass unrest. Currently, nine individuals remain in custody.
Several international human rights organizations, including the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now, and others, have repeatedly called for the release of the detained politicians and activists in Kyrgyzstan.
