in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

President Sadyr Japarov has made amendments to the decree "On measures to enhance the potential and competitiveness of higher professional education institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic" — Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) has been granted a special status, as announced by the university.

The amended decree will come into effect ten days after its official publication. This change positions KRSU as one of the few universities with a special status, allowing Kyrgyzstan to improve education quality, strengthen its role in the country's socio-economic development, and enhance the prestige and international competitiveness of Kyrgyz universities. It also fosters cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation in the field of education.

Acting Rector Denis Fomin-Nilov emphasized the significance attached by the leadership of Kyrgyzstan and Russia to the development of KRSU, anticipating a significant modernization of the university. He highlighted the need for accelerated modernization to align the university with modern labor market requirements. The special status grants the university autonomy over its property, enabling it to attract Russian funds for infrastructure development and building renovations.

Moreover, KRSU gains the ability to generate financial resources not only through contracts but also through scientific activities, providing a substantial boost to the university's research sphere. The university also gains autonomy in personnel matters, being exempt from all types of inspections for three years, except for annual independent external or internal audits in accordance with international audit standards and legislation.
