During a parliamentary committee meeting, it was revealed that Askar Akaev remains a member of the National Academy of Sciences in the field of informatics and computer engineering.
When questioned about why he has not been excluded, the President of the Academy explained that while Akaev is automatically included, he has not been actively contributing for many years. Despite residing in Moscow, the statutes and laws prevent his exclusion.
In May 2023, Askar and Mairam Akaev returned to Kyrgyzstan, where Askar was scheduled to give a lecture at a university in Bishkek. However, some students protested, supported by members of the Parliament, leading to the cancellation of Akaev's speeches at universities by the Ministry of Education and Science. Earlier in February 2023, President Sadyr Japarov met with all former heads of state in the United Arab Emirates, including Askar Akaev, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Roza Otunbayeva, Almazbek Atambayev, and Sooronbay Jeenbekov. Japarov emphasized the need for unity among Kyrgyzstan citizens, transcending the divisions of past presidencies for the stability of the nation.
