Central Election Commission (CEC) Completes Applications from Candidates for Kyrgyz Parliament Elections in Batken, Kara-Suu, and Osh Single-Mandate Districts

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has finished accepting applications from candidates who wish to become deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh in the Batken, Kara-Suu, and Osh single-mandate districts. A total of 42 applications have been received. Among the candidates are individuals with varying backgrounds such as pensioners, local council deputies, company executives, leaders of public funds, unemployed individuals, teachers, and private entrepreneurs. Information about them on the CEC website is limited to date of birth, occupation, nomination order, and date.

Only two of the candidates are women, both running in the Osh district. Candidates or their authorized representatives must submit a complete set of documents for registration no later than 6:00 pm on March 31st.

It is worth noting that on April 28th, new deputies for the Jogorku Kenesh will be elected in the three single-mandate districts. The parliamentary seats became vacant after certain deputies resigned following reports on the "Region TV" channel, owned by the head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, regarding connections of some MPs with former customs official Rayimbek Matraimov.

In particular, references were made to Iskender Matraimov, the brother of the former customs official, Aibek Osmonov, Shailoobek Atazov, and Nadir Narmatov, the initiator of the foreign agents bill. Respondents suggest that these Jogorku Kenesh members should voluntarily resign or be stripped of their mandates.

Furthermore, the CEC prematurely terminated the mandate of "Ata-Jurt Kyrgyzstan" faction member Abdibakhap Boronbaev, who headed the Southwest Customs before entering parliament. The mandate was transferred to businessman Saidbek Zulpuyev, the next candidate on the party's electoral list.

Following this, based on statements of mandate relinquishment, the CEC prematurely ended the mandates of MPs Iskender Matraimov, Nurlan Rajabaliyev, and Aibek Osmonov. As they were elected to parliament from single-mandate districts, early elections have been appointed by the president's decrees.

A total of 34,648,000 soms is planned to be spent on the preparation and conduct of these elections.
