Kyrgyzstan Registers 25 Mining Companies, Concerns Raised Over Energy Usage

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a session of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Transport, Communications, Architecture, and Construction, Deputy Minister of Energy Atabek Abylgaziev revealed that around 25 mining companies are registered in Kyrgyzstan. He mentioned that eight of them are receiving energy from small hydropower plants under agreements.

Abylgaziev also pointed out that the Ministry does not have any agreements with some mining companies, such as Mining SolarCoin in Kemin, which is obtaining energy directly from Russia via transit through Kazakhstan.

In response to concerns raised by Deputy Tazabek Ikramov about all electricity being allocated to mining companies, restrictions have been introduced. Ikramov inquired about mining activities at "Kambar-Ata," to which Abylgaziev clarified that to his knowledge, there is no mining taking place there.

Another parliamentarian, Iskhak Masaliev, reminded the committee that the president himself had previously mentioned mining activities at the Kambaratinskaya HPP.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev, stated that only one mining farm was operational in Kyrgyzstan, receiving energy from Kazakhstan. However, this information was later refuted by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
