Deputies Express Outrage Over Eviction of Residents in Bishkek

in Politics / Kyrgyzstan - by

During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies expressed outrage over the eviction of residents from a disputed building on Suerkulov Street. They demanded assistance for the affected individuals and called for an investigation into the mayor of Bishkek's responsibility.

Last week, citizens were evicted from a business center on Suerkulov Street, 146/1. The deputies questioned why government agencies did not address this issue earlier and emphasized the importance of treating citizens humanely. They highlighted the urgency of helping those who have been left homeless.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev stated, "I have sent letters to the Prosecutor General's Office and the mayor multiple times regarding this issue. Citizens have been left homeless. We need to treat people with compassion and provide them with assistance."

Fellow deputy Maxat Sarbagyshov echoed Bekeshev's concerns, emphasizing the illegality of the evictions, especially during cold weather. He called for a legal assessment of the situation and criticized the use of force to remove women and mothers from their homes.

Deputy Kunduzbek Sulaimanov shared that residents of the building on Suerkulov Street, 16/1, also reached out to him. He suggested that the eviction could have been postponed until warmer weather.

Deputy Marlen Mamataliyev raised suspicions of the mayor's vested interests in the evictions. He emphasized the need for the mayor to prioritize the welfare of the people and protect their interests, rather than prioritizing investors and foreigners.

The deputies collectively called for accountability to be placed on the mayor of Bishkek for the forced evictions. This incident follows previous attempts to evict residents near the Orto-Sai Market in Bishkek.
