The authorities of Kyrgyzstan have engaged the company TBEA for the comprehensive repair of two units at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant. A memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Energy and the Chinese company.
Earlier, the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Taalaibek Ibraev, met with the Chairman of the Board of TBEA, Zhang Xin. They discussed increasing the active electrical and thermal capacity of the modernized part of the power plant to its design capacity, as well as conducting current and major repairs of units No. 3 and No. 4 due to equipment wear.
As a result, it was decided that TBEA will send specialists for the repair of units No. 3 and No. 4, providing training for the power plant's staff for future independent work.
Moreover, during the recent business forum "Kyrgyzstan - China (SUAR)," a memorandum of cooperation on the overhaul of units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant was signed with TBEA. The contract amount is not yet disclosed.
Recall that on January 26, 2018, a serious accident occurred at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the reliability of Kyrgyzstan's energy system was significantly compromised. The power plant had just completed its modernization, claiming readiness for winter loads, with the country's leaders cutting a red ribbon in front of cameras.
A few months later, freezing temperatures hit, and the capital was left without heating and hot water. It was then revealed that the new unit, built by the Chinese company TBEA for $386 million, was incapable of providing heat output.
